Moon-Blue
by D. Savannah George
In the moon-blue evening,
where shadows fall like leaves
beneath weeping willows
bent by age and care
where creatures of the night
weep in outrage
and fairies no longer dance
-- they've forgotten how --
where wraiths drift and eddy
on the night wind's breath
and tread on flowers
dying, dying, shorn
where human souls get lost
and never return
to the light of day
and warmth of love
in the moon-blue evening,
after the sun goes down,
before the sky has faded
i listen, and hope, to hear the song
