The Finnish girl
with the strange
last name and the
stranger ways
Never quite fit
in. Her small
body, precise
handwriting,
meekness and too
much desire
to please puzzled
all near her.

Mouse-silent, she
drew cats when
signing her name.
A scream from
her lips would have
startled all
who looked her way.

It matters
none - here is a
cat in all
of us who preys
upon the
mouse within.
